Barry Richard Johnson

August 8, 1948 – June 23, 2024

Barry was born August 8, 1948 in Wharton County, Texas to Elmer Richard “Happy” Johnson and Joyce Cook Johnson. He grew up in El Campo, Texas with fond memories of his grandparents and cousins on both the Johnson & Cook sides. He graduated from El Campo High School in 1966 and attended Wharton County Junior College where he received an associates degree and technical certification. Later he went on to The University of Texas at Austin where he graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1977. Settling in Austin, Texas, Barry married Linda Edwards. They had two children, Blakely Richard and Jane Allison Johnson. During his early career he worked for Westinghouse, Applied Materials Labs at The University of Texas, Trane, Budweiser Distributing, Motorola Semiconductors. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces - spending hours at the lake, in the pool, recording VHS of family memories and on family vacations.

Barry loved fishing, hunting, boating, kayaking, and telling tall tales. He met Ann Murdock, his ‘Sweetie’ in the mid 2000's and never looked back. He made the move from Austin to Houston to Ann’s townhome, where he would gladly join in family celebrations and joyfully keep tabs on kids and grandkids. He joyfully volunteered his time working with the St. Anne’s care team and CCSC Job Net program.

Barry is survived by his partner Ann Murdock, his daughter, Jane Allison Johnson, his son Blakely Richard Johnson and husband Brett Davis, Ann’s family, nieces, several cousins and Linda Edwards.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Friday, June 28th at 2pm at St. Anne Catholic Community Church located at 2140 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas, 77098. A reception will follow in the St. Theresa living room parish center. Parking is located off the Kingston Street entrance.
